Rate Agreements
Rate agreements are formal documents that establish the negotiated rates between an institution and the federal government or other funding entities.
These rates are used to calculate the indirect costs (also known as Facilities & Administrative costs) and fringe benefits associated with research grants, contracts, and other sponsored projects. They ensure that the institution recovers the appropriate portion of overhead costs incurred in support of sponsored research and activities. Regularly updated to reflect current conditions, these agreements are critical for accurate budgeting and financial reporting in compliance with regulatory requirements.

*Off-Campus Definition: For all activities performed in facilities not owned by the institution and to which rent is directly allocated to the project(s), the off-campus rate will apply. Grants or contracts will not be subject to more than one F&A cost rate. If more than 50% of a project is performed off-campus, the off-campus rate will apply to the entire project.
**All existing awards at the Radiation Lab through October 31,2022, would use the Radiation Lab Rate of 32% for the life of the award, and all new awards resulting from proposals submitted after November 1, 2022, at the Radiation Lab will use the OR rate of 56.5%.
Fringe Benefit Rates
The Fringe Benefit Rates table outlines the different rates applicable to various university personnel, including Full-Time Faculty, Part-Time Employees, Post-Docs, Graduate and Undergraduate Students, Exempt and Non-Exempt Staff, as well as Non-Regular/Temporary Staff.
